Placement
Students will be placed in a level according to their age (and ability, if older). Older students with no previous dance experience will not be placed in the Primary Level, but rather in an Intermediate Level class. Intermediate and Advanced Adult Tap students will be placed according to ability. Placement is dependent upon the teacher's observation of the student in class. Placement in the Advanced class is by audition/invitation only.
Preschoolers must be 3, have turned 3 by September 1 of the current dance year and be potty-trained.

Promotions
Typically, a student will be in a level for 2-3 years, before being promoted. Exceptions will only be made in the case of an older student that began late and has quickly learned proper technique or a younger student that demonstrates their ability to handle all of the necessary technique to be able to handle the next level. Promotions are left to the discernment of the student's teacher. Occasionally, a promotion will be made during the dance year, but typically promotions are handed out in May or June and are effective for either the summer or the next fall. Promotion to pointe is only available to those students in Level 4 (who are at least 12 years of age) and, again, is at the discernment of the ballet teacher. If you have a question or concern about your child's placement, please speak to the teacher.
